Thunderstorms have been building, but dying off throughout the morning in northeast Kansas. However, the chance remains through the afternoon for an isolated thunderstorm that could bring heavy rain to the Lawrence area, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

About 11 a.m. a thunderstorm was building in the northwest part of Douglas County, but had not yet produced any significant rain, Schack said.

“A lot of them are building and dying in northeast Kansas,” she said. The ones that turn into thunderstorms “are dropping a lot of rain,” she said.

As the warm front continues to move through the Lawrence area, it will bring windy conditions, high humidity and warm temperatures topping out at 89. Winds will be 10-20 mph.

The temperature will drop overnight, with the low dipping to 71 by early Friday morning, with winds 8 to 15 mph. Friday’s high will be 91, beginning what will be several days of 90-plus degree weather, Schack said.

From Saturday through Tuesday, high temperatures will be in the low 90s, with the morning lows in the low 70s, she said.
