Turnpike tolls to increase

Tolls on the Kansas Turnpike are headed up, and road improvements in the Lawrence area are the main reason.

Tolls will increase 5 percent on Aug. 1, which means it will cost an additional 5 to 10 cents to head from Lawrence to Topeka or Kansas City on the turnpike (Interstate 70).

The Kansas Turnpike Authority says expansion of the roadway to three lanes in each direction from the Lecompton interchange to East Topeka, as well as the replacement of the bridges over the Kansas River in Lawrence, led to the increase.
