Immediate volunteer needs

  • Lawrence Habitat for Humanity has moved to new offices at 840 Conn., Suite B, and needs a small number of volunteers to help clean the office regularly. A group of volunteers may be able to coordinate so individuals or small teams clean on alternate weeks. Guidance, supplies and a lot of appreciation will be provided. For more information, contact Marilyn at the Habitat office, 832-0777.
  • Independence Inc. wants volunteers to assist in painting the exterior of a residence of a person with a disability in Lawrence. Supplies will be provided, and a small group or club may be able to finish the project in a single day. For more information, contact Susan Mikesic at 841-0333.
  • More youths are needed to volunteer to mow the lawns of local senior citizens. Please contact Interfaith Caring Neighbors at 749-2005.
  • The annual drive for school supplies for local children in need has begun and will continue until the new school year begins in August. Local community service agencies, including ECKAN, Penn House and Ballard Center, are working to assure that more than 1,000 qualifying children receive the supplies they need for school. Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways — by sponsoring school-supply drives in their workplaces or among their friends, donating money or supplies directly to the agencies, assisting the agencies with taking applications from families, and sorting donated supplies for the distribution in August. Contact the Roger Hill Volunteer Center to learn how to help with the citywide school supply drive.
