Don and Judy LaFond's front yard stops passers-by in their tracks.

Onlookers can't resist the urge to meander through the blooming landscape into the fenced backyard. But there is no "Keep Off the Grass" sign in the LaFond's lawn and the homeowners don't mind when people come, sometimes by the bus full, to admire their horticultural handiwork.

At least 75 percent of the LaFonds' property in northwest Lawrence has been transformed into flourishing flower beds. The remaining turf provides paths for the gardeners and visitors to get up close and personal with the blossoms. With a multihued mix of perennials and annuals, the ever-blooming display is a traffic-stopper, not unlike an over-the-top lights display at Christmas time.

Now the neighbors are getting into the act. Inspired by the LaFonds' enthusiasm and expertise, the owners of the two homes next door have created complementary garden beds on their properties. Judy LaFond has pitched in with advice, starter plants and even manual labor to keep her personal neighborhood beautification program going strong.

Meet the LaFonds and their gardening neighbors on this week's "Home & Away."

A new "Home & Away" show airs at 6:30 p.m. each Monday on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 and repeats at 9:30 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m., 5:30 p.m., 9 p.m. Tuesday; 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 10:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. Saturday.
