Lawrence residents Callie Fishburn and Michael Krumm, both Lone Star 4-H Club members, pose with Willie the Wildcat during 4-H Discovery Days. The event, which was June 2-4 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, attracted about 500 4-H'ers from across the state.

St. Jude Circle 1127 of the Daughters of Isabella marks its 38th anniversary. The celebration was May 10 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Hosts of the event, which included a social hour and dinner, were past circle regents. The Lawrence Westar Energy Retirees Club has started a volunteer group to work on various community projects. Pictured are, standing from left, George Norton, Will Hadl, John Callewaert and Sadie Deaton; and seated, Connie Hadl. The group helped with the American Red Cross Blood Drive on March 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Since the group was formed last year, members also have helped Douglas County Senior Services deliver meals two days a week and have worked on Habitat for Humanity houses. Other members, not pictured, are Deanna Callewaert and Charleen Coleman.

Connie Torneden, Tonganoxie, left, was nominated for the American Business Women of America Top 10. She received recognition from Valerie Kampfer, membership chairwoman. Torneden was honored during the ABWA Twilight Chapter's meeting April 19 at the Hereford House.

Connie Ingle, vice president of the Twilight Chapter of the American Business Women of America, was named the chapter's Woman of the Year. She received the honor during the club's meeting April 19 at the Hereford House.
