A former Eudora city councilman was recently promoted to Army colonel during a ceremony in Camp Buehring, Kuwait.

Patrick Dardis, who served on the council 12 years, is the commander of Buehring. It is a deployment base for coalition forces preparing to enter Iraq. It has a capacity to support 14,000 troops at one time.

Dardis, an Army Reserve officer, was activated in December 2003. He is a 1970 graduate of Eudora High School and a 1980 graduate of Kansas University.

Dardis is the son of Helen Dardis and the late Michael Dardis.

  • Marine Sgt. Jason E. Kent, formerly of Perry, recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his work in Iraq.

Kent was a crew chief on an amphibious assault vehicle with the First Marine Division supporting a task force from March 21, 2003, to April 19, 2003. During the war in Iraq, Kent’s vehicle was a command vehicle for the infantry weapons platoon commander.

Kent provided advice and helped the commander with all of his duties. The Marine Corps presented the medal to Kent and stated that he met the highest traditions of the corps by using his initiative and perseverance.

  • Army Reserve Pvt. Michael A. Moore has graduated from the utilities equipment repairer advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.

The student learned to perform maintenance, test, repair, adjust, and inspect gasoline engine systems, utility equipment and special purpose support systems.

Moore, a 2003 Baldwin High School graduate, is the son of Melvin and Linda Moore, Baldwin.
