FCE and 4-H news

India Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the home of Dorothy Kerns. Co-hostess will be Faye Yound, who will give the lesson “Celebrating Local Finds.”

  • The Lone Star 4-H Club met June 14 at the Lone Star Church. The meeting was called to order by Callie Fishburn, president. Grant Metsker, secretary, took roll call, which members answered by naming their favorite type of music.

Mary Berg gave the leaders report. She reminded members that Douglas County Free Fair entries were due to the Extension office by June 30 and that they need to sign up to work at the concession stand. Sherry Penny agreed to be the club shift manager. Members discussed the club fest.Michael Krumm and Alison Mesler gave a report on the club project. Callie Fishburn and Marla Metsker talked about the club banner.

The club voted to donate funds to the Lone Star Church to help cover the cost of a new canopy. The club also voted to donate funds to Rock Springs to help with the horses and to purchase items for the troops in Iraq. The club also will donate to the Krystal Bateson memorial.

Michael Penny talked about a current event. Members who are enrolled in the hand pet, cat and beef projects gave a presentation. The club honored 2004 Lawrence High School graduates, Jared Johanning and Kailey Mesler.
