Texas overcomes Nebraska, flu

? The AssoJody Conradt’s worrying was for naught.

Concerned because some of her players had the stomach flu, the Texas coach watched her third-ranked team put together one of its best offensive performances so far in rolling past No. 25 Nebraska, 82-59, Wednesday.

Freshman Tiffany Jackson led the way with her fifth double-double, getting 22 points and 11 rebounds in just her second start.

“This is probably the best complete game we played in some time,” Conradt said. “Even though we weren’t at our best health, we stepped it up.”

Texas shot 54 percent in a 47-point second half and dominated under the basket with its taller, stronger post players. Kala Bowers added 19 points for UT (18-2, 6-1 Big 12 ), while Stacy Stephens and Heather Schreiber each scored 17.

The Longhorns outscored Nebraska 42-26 on inside points and kept the Cornhuskers (14-4, 4-3) from getting into the transition game that had been so effective in a shocker of then-No. 9 Kansas State Saturday.

“They were so strong. We were like a gnat in there,” Nebraska coach Connie Yori said. “We were double-teaming, and they were pushing their hand like, ‘Get away from me little gnat.’ That’s what we felt like.”

No. 7 Texas Tech 65, Texas A&M 56

Lubbock, Texas — Cisti Greenwalt matched a season-high with 19 points, and Texas Tech used a strong second half to beat Texas A&M.

Alesha Robertson added 15 points for Tech (18-2, 4-2 Big 12), which rebounded from a double-overtime conference loss Saturday to Oklahoma.

Toccara Williams and Lynn Classen led A&M (7-11, 0-7) with 16 points apiece.

Missouri 77, No. 20 Oklahoma 65

Columbia, Mo. — Evan Unrau had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Missouri used a 10-0 run early in the second half and perfect free-throw shooting to beat No. 20 Oklahoma.

Stretch James, who had 22 points, started the run five minutes into the second half. Eight of the points come after a technical foul on Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale.

The defeat was the third in a row for Oklahoma (13-5, 3-4 Big 12).

Missouri (11-6, 2-4), which made all 21 of its foul shots, had not beaten a ranked team since taking Texas Tech Jan. 9, 2002.
