Ants on houseplants may be living in a nest in the soil. Lift a suspected plant from its pot and look for ants and white ant eggs in the soil.

Shake off as much soil as possible outdoors and then gently rinse the root zone with lukewarm water. Re-pot with fresh potting soil in a free-draining container at least as large as the existing one.
