Lydia and Abel Leon

Lydia Oelschlaeger, Lawrence, and Abel Leon-Fuentes, Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, were married July 12, 2003, on Kansas University’s campus with the Rev. Tim Hessel-Robinson, of St. Andrew Christian Church, officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Larry Oelschlaeger, Lawrence, and Sandy and Brett Groene, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Macario Leon Uriarte and Micaela Fuentes de Leon, Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.

Bridesmaids were Molly Groene, Olivia Leon, Brooke Disney and Beth DaSilva. Groomsmen were Ashley Oelschlaeger and Sergio Cuen Leon. Interpreter was Veronica Leon. Reader was Brett Groene. Ring bearer was Anthony Groene. Ring presenters were Eryn Ridinger and Macario Leon. Lasso bearers were Jana Hoisington and Deanne Flickinger. Flower girls were Marina Kesicki and Lizet Leon. Guitar soloist was Clifford Downing. Flower girls’ attendants were Eddie Kesicki and Roberto Leon. Usher was Rodolfo Leon. Greeters were Clara Groene and Jose Leon.

A reception was given at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

The bride is a Lawrence High School graduate. She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in geography, Latin American studies and Spanish from Kansas University. She is employed by Legal Aid of Western Missouri as project director of Migrant Farmworkers Project.

The groom is a graduate of CBATIS No. 37 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering at Instituto Tecnologico de Sonora in Ciudad Obregon. He received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and computer science from KU. He is a systems analyst with ALTEC at KU.

The couple reside in Kansas City, Mo.

Gibson-Pokaski

Jessica and Joseph Pokaski

Jessica Mae Gibson, Lawrence, and Joseph Martin Pokaski III, Boston, were married June 7, 2003, at Plymouth Congregational Church with the Rev. Lew Hinshaw officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Janette Schwartzburg, Lawrence, and Gary and Judy Gibson, Warren, Ill. The groom is the son of Joseph and Ann Marie Pokaski, Hanson, Mass.

Lana Guilfoyle was maid of honor. Joanne Pokaski, Jill Pokaski, Jennifer Seyboth, Jordan Blackburn, Kerry Carnahan, Ashley Davis, Meghan Nelson and Allison Taylor were bride’s attendants. Steven Comey was best man. Chris McBride, Richard Donovan, Rahul Aras, Armin Azar, Richard May, Richard Corcoran, Frank Seyboth and Kara Haback were groom’s attendants.

Kendall Seyboth was honorary flower girl. Jessie Schwartzburg and Chelsea Schwartzburg were greeters. Catherine Harvey and Julie Pokaski were gift attendants. Kyle Harvey and Paul Pokaski Jr. were candle lighters. Carol Jorgensen was guest book attendant. Katie Schwartzburg was flower attendant. Hannah Knowlton was the bride’s personal attendant. Marlo DeBiasse was coordinator. Helen Hawley was organist. Breanna Pine was soloist. Mike Schwartzburg was guitarist. Liza Cohen was reader.

A reception was given at Liberty Hall.

The couple reside in Pasadena, Calif.

A.R. and Barb Wells

Barb Underwood and A. R. Wells III, both of Lawrence, were married June 28, 2003, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence with the Revs. Peter Luckey and Jerry Harnden officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Chris Underwood, Baldwin, and Sharon Underwood, Ottawa. The groom is the son of Randy and Charlotte Wells Jr., Lawrence, and Eva Wells, Alton.

Matron of honor was Gina Hershberger. Best man was John Mier. Bridesmaids were Kelly Elsten, Ashlee Fishback, Jennifer Slaby, Jennifer Ravenscroft and Rachel Leibengood. Groomsmen were Mark Banker, J.D. Wells, Kelly Miller, Ryan Shadel and Kyle Underwood.

Soloist was Kristin Allan. Candle lighters were Lora Wedd and Lisa Maher. Nickolas Becker was ring bearer. Honorary flower girl was Emma Stillman. Ushers were Clay Morse, Kyle Trendel, Shane Wedd and Spencer Lawrenz.

A reception was given at the Lawrence Country Club.

The bride is a 1992 graduate of Ottawa High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Baker University in 1996. She is an advertising account executive at Sunflower Broadband in Lawrence.

The groom is a 1992 graduate of Lawrence High School. He attended Kansas University. He is store manager for Westlake Ace Hardware.

The couple reside in Lawrence.

Brummell-Turner

Katie and Travis Turner

Katie Elizabeth Brummell and Travis James Turner were married Sept. 27, 2003, at Central United Methodist Church, Lawrence, with Pastor Kevin Williams officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Alan and Jan Brummell, Lawrence. She is the goddaughter of Judy Culley, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Roy and Mary Turner, Holyrood.

Kelly Barrow and Kim Carnelia were maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Brandi Bryant, Cassie Baldwin and Judy Willis. Best man was Brent Turner. Groomsmen were Matt Hurley, Dustin Goalden, Kelly Jones and Gene Mooney.

Ushers were Jamie Brummell, Tim Turner and Jim Bisterfeldt. Kaylee Willis, Kendra Willis and Kiley Bryant were flower girls. Ring bearers were Roy Turner and Michael Willis.

Kelsey Feltman and Caylor Feltman were candle lighters. Soloist was Lori Hoelscher. Nichole Homeier and Erica Reisig were guest book attendants.

A dinner and dance were given at Liberty Hall. The couple took a honeymoon cruise to St. Thomas and St. Martins.

The bride received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in audiology from Kansas University. She is an audiologist with Great Plains Hearing and Speech in Topeka.

The groom attended KU. He is a sales representative with Coca-Cola in Lenexa.

The couple reside in De Soto.
