Boy Scout Troop 62, chartered to the Linwood Lions Club, met Jan. 5. The Scoutmaster told the Scouts that the troop will be “boy-run” with adult monitoring. The boys will decide what activities to do, where to camp and be responsible for organizing events. The senior patrol leader talked to the boys about a Code of Conduct and passed out a copy for each Scout to read and sign.
A number of events were scheduled at the meeting: The Scouts will have a chili feed from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at the community building in Linwood. Tickets will be $5 per person. Scouts also will have a campout and Klondike Derby Jan. 23-25 at Camp Naish.

- Venture Crew 2052, chartered to the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church of Lawrence, attended a winter camping program at the Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely, Minn. The crew left Dec. 26 and returned Jan. 2.
While there, the crew went snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and dog sledding. They built polar domes that were large enough to protect four girls while sleeping. They observed Canadian jays, moles and bald eagles. Although they did not see any wolves, they did hear them howling and discovered some adult and puppy prints as well as wolf hairs. The crew also teamed up with three Boy Scout troops to play “Shovel Ball,” a winterized version of soccer.
Crew members who participated were Amanda Brixey, Skyler Detherage, Christy Howard, Alison King, Anna Robertson, Clarissa Wagner, Michelle Pressgrove, Alexis Tommer and Kathy Lewis. They were accompanied by adult leaders Cathy Howard, Robin Robertson and Rose Wagner.
Venture Crew 2052 is an all-female crew with members from Lawrence, Eudora and Baldwin.
