Kansas attorney general to meet with AARP

Kansas Atty. Gen. Phill Kline will be the speaker at today’s Lawrence AARP meeting.

Kline will discuss issues that concern senior citizens.

At the Feb. 27 AARP meeting Jeff Colyer, a reconstructive surgeon from Johnson County, will be the guest speaker. He is a volunteer with the U.S. Medical Corps and was the first American civilian physician to enter southern Iraq after the war.

The AARP will meet both days at noon at the Lawrence Country Club, 400 Country Club Terrace.

Concert to feature men’s chorale, quartet

The Lawrence Men’s Chorale will present “Warm Notes for Winter 2004,” featuring the barbershop quartet Kansas Express, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The Lawrence Men’s Chorale will sing a cappella men’s choral music from the Renaissance to the present. Kansas Express will sing a variety of barbershop harmony, with songs from throughout the 20th century. Admission is $5.

Visiting nurses group to celebrate 35 years

The Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. will celebrate its 35 anniversary next month.

The association plans a public reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 2 at the third-floor lobby of the Community Health Facility, 200 Maine.

Since 1969 the association has provided home health services as well as services at day care and assisting living centers and nursing homes.
