KU hires lobbyist for session

Kansas University has contracted with a lobbyist to assist with the legislative session.

The decision to hire Kathy Damron of Topeka, a former staff member for U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts and Gov. Mike Hayden, comes in the wake of the announcement of Janet Murguia’s departure. Murguia, executive vice chancellor for university relations, led lobbying efforts and will leave KU at the end of the month to lead a national Hispanic advocacy organization.

Kevin Boatright, who served as associate executive vice chancellor under Murguia, will lead the division and its lobbying efforts on an interim basis. Jon Josserand, government relations assistant, will report to Boatright.

Chancellor Robert Hemenway said Boatright would work closely with top KU administrators, including himself.
