McNabney services

Memorial services for Francis Richard McNabney, 89, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lawrence Baptist Temple.

Mr. McNabney died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Aug. 9, 1914, in Seattle, the son of Charles and Jenny (Salisbury) McNabney. He lived in Lawrence most of the time since 1947.

Mr. McNabney worked as a custodian for the Baptist Student Center until retirement. Prior to that he worked as a high school teacher in Washington state for a brief time. He taught German and history at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., from 1954 to 1961, and was a radio operator in Seattle and Santa Rosa and Oakland, Calif. He also was a transmitter technician for RCA and was a custodian at Kansas University.

Mr. McNabney attended KU, Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., the University of Chicago and Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., for summer courses. He was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha (political science honorary), was in the senior musicians Band and Clown club and sang and played for Valleyview Nursing Home for a number of years. He also was a member of Lawrence Baptist Temple and Lawrence Baptist Center.

Survivors include a niece and a nephew.
