City looking to enforce food sales requirement at bars

The Lawrence City Commission is looking into ways to enforce food sales requirements for downtown bars. Some city officials feel they should more closely monitor the requirement that 55 percent of drink establishments’ sales come from food.

Drinking establishments licensed before 1994 do not have to meet the requirement. Those places could stop selling food, and some city officials are concerned more bars could come to downtown Lawrence.
