Dale E. Unfred

Services for Dale E. Unfred, 66, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Unfred died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Lawrence, the son of Lawrence F. and Evelyn Smith Unfred. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1956 and attended Kansas University for two years. He lived in Big Springs for five years before moving to Topeka two years ago.

Mr. Unfred was a heavy equipment operator for Dunbar Trucking and Excavating and for Hamm Construction Co. He was the owner of Unfred Ditching for several years. He retired in the mid-’80s. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers No. 101 in Topeka, and Mount Oread Aerie No. 309, Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He married Marjorie Bowen in 1956. They later divorced. He married Carolyn Rouse in 1976. They also divorced.

Survivors include two daughters, Diana Jean Enneking, Topeka, and Debra Hamm, Perry; a son, Gary Dale, Big Springs; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Dale E. Unfred Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary.
