Wife surrenders in 1982 homicide case

Olathe — An Ohio woman has voluntarily returned to Johnson County to face charges in the beating death of her husband two decades ago.

Melinda Raisch, 46, made her first court appearance Friday in Johnson County and was released after posting a $300,000 bond.

“Melinda is innocent and we will prove it in court,” defense attorney Tom Bath said after the hearing.

Raisch, who was arrested last month in Delaware County near Columbus, Ohio, faces charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the 1982 death of her husband, David J. Harmon, 25, in their Olathe duplex.

Raisch is accused of plotting with a former Olathe man to kill Harmon. The other man, who now lives on the East Coast, has not been charged, though he has been named as a co-

conspirator in court documents.

Police release report of murder-suicide

Hays — A man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, according to a coroner’s report.

The Hays Police Department Friday said the coroner determined Anne Dolan, 51, and Robert Dolan, 49, died late Wednesday or early Thursday in the bedroom of the couple’s home in Hays.

Law enforcement officers who were asked to check the Dolan home when Anne Dolan didn’t show up for work found the couple’s bodies Thursday morning. Both had a single handgun wound to the chest.

Mother charged in death of infant daughter

Olathe — An Olathe woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her infant daughter.

Prosecutors said Aubrey C. Owen, 20, abandoned her daughter in the trash in October. A preliminary hearing will be March 3 in Johnson County District Court.

Prosecutors said Owen gave birth at her parents’ house in Olathe, then abandoned the baby in a trash container several miles from her home. A trash truck driver called police after finding the baby Oct. 13.

Owen was released from jail after posting a $100,000 bond.

The hearing will determine whether there is enough evidence to go to trial.
