Adonai’s Agape through Jesus Christ
A free seminar, “The Truth about Healing,” led by Raymond Mossie, will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at Doubletree Hotel on College Boulevard, off U.S. Highway 69, in Overland Park.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church
A new Inquirers Group will begin meeting at 9:15 a.m. Jan. 11 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.
The group, which is for those who are interested in learning more about the Catholic tradition and those who want to become Catholic, will meet Sundays.

First Christian Church
Programming for the children’s ministry will resume Wednesday at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.
A family meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall, followed by Bible Blast for children in grades one through six at 7:10 p.m.
First United Methodist Church
Children who are of pre-kindergarten age through sixth grade will be learning about “People Who Make a Difference” in a new Sunday school rotation that begins Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.
Redeemer Lutheran Church
The congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church will have its installation of new officers and boards during both worship services Sunday at the church, 2700 Lawrence Ave.
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The January item for “The Mother’s Touch — Russia” is baby clothing such as T-shirts and gowns.
The annual chili dinner is schedule for 6 p.m. Jan. 18, followed by the annual business meeting at 7 p.m.
Trinity Episcopal Church
An adult forum will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the parish hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.
Epiphany will be celebrated with morning prayer at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at 1027 Vt.
Unity Church of Lawrence
A “Spiritual Basics” series, focusing on core spiritual principles of Unity, will run Jan. 13 through Feb. 17 at Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane.
Weekly topics will be: From Religion to Spirituality; Formative Power of Thought; The One Presence and One Power; God the Good; The Nature of Mankind is Essentially Divine; Prayer and Meditation, Affirmations/Denials; and Principles of Healing.
The class is open to the public, and donations will be accepted.

University Community of Christ
The University Community of Christ congregation, 1900 University Drive, has elected Avanelle Mercer to serve as its new pastor.
Mercer replaces Steve Zahniser, who has served as pastor since 1998.
Elders Mike Zabel and Novy Bowman will serve as associate pastors.
Zahniser remains an elder, and will serve as counselor, along with Elder Ken Flanders.
Mercer has been a lifelong member of the Community of Christ, a denomination formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She has been an active priesthood member of the University congregation since moving to Lawrence in October 1999. She served as pastor of the Atchison congregation from 1994 to 1999.
The community is invited to attend a special reception following the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service to recognize Zahniser and introduce Mercer as pastor.
West Side Presbyterian Church
Holy Communion will be observed at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive.
Members are reminded that it is the church’s turn to serve Thursday at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen.
All reports for the 2003 annual report are due in the church office, so that there is ample time to prepare them for the annual meeting and potluck after worship services Jan. 25.
