Clinton State Park boasts 500 campsites, 15 miles of hiking trails

Clinton State Park, located four miles west of Lawrence, offers something for just about everyone.

The 1500-acre park is on the north shore of Clinton Reservoir. Boat ramps and courtesy docks afford easy access to the reservoir, known for its clear water and good fishing.

Anglers, boaters and campers enjoy Clinton Lake Marina. The marina offers boat slips, retail sales, equipment rental and a floating restaurant.

Nearly 500 campsites are available in the park, including 240 water and electric and 220 primitive sites.

Clinton offers 15 campsites with utilities that are available by reservation. All other campsites are first-come, first-served.

The park also has 16 boat ramps, eight courtesy docks, separate launching areas for windsurfers and jet skis, a beach with changing area and shower house, six picnic shelters areas and a day-use picnic area.

Park visitors may enjoy more than 15 miles of mountain biking-hiking trails, three miles of cross-country ski trail, a prairie trail, four playgrounds, a sand volleyball area, an archery range, six shower buildings (one winterized), two comfort stations, six flush toilet buildings, nine pit toilet buildings and two dump stations.

Campers may also use the Rent-a-Camp program. Complete with most of the basic gear needed to enjoy a campout.

Nearby restrooms and showers add a touch of comfort to the park. Clean, adequate facilities and friendly staff ensure something for everyone.

Clinton State Park offers good wildlife viewing opportunities, as well.

White-tailed deer, turkey, waterfowl and numerous species of songbirds abound in the managed habitat areas. During the spring and fall, bald eagles frequent the shoreline and nest in areas on the reservoir.

In spring, the park blossoms with native wildflowers easily seen from a self-guided nature trail. Park naturalist programs are scheduled on weekends April through October.
