Jayhawks still third at Big 12

? Kansas University’s swimming and diving team remained in third place after Thursday’s second day of the Big 12 Conference Championships.

Sophomore Gina Gnatzig led the Jayhawks with a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle, recording a time of 4:51.76.

KU senior Kim Bolin placed fourth in the 50 freestyle in 23.10.

Also, the 200 freestyle relay squad set a school record, posting a time of 1:32.40. The foursome consisted of Bolin, junior Amy Gruber, senior Ashley Dower and senior Whitney Sondall.

“When the individual events start, it is an opportunity for everyone to get involved,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “I think our team was really motivated by the first day of relays. Historically, this first day of individual events has been tough for our program. I thought we rose to that challenge today.”

KU had 181 points Thursday, trailing leader Texas (340.5) and second-place Texas A&M (233).

Today’s events include the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
