Eleanor J. Fox

Services for Eleanor J. Fox, 77, Lawrence, formerly of Leawood, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, Overland Park. Cremation is planned.

Mrs. Fox died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Olathe, the daughter of George and Nancy (Kessler) Perkins.

She graduated from Olathe High School and received a bachelor’s degree in library science in 1948 from the University of Denver. She earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in the 1970s from Kansas University.

Mrs. Fox worked at the Detroit Public Library, the Missouri State Library, the Topeka Public Library and the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library. She also spent five years in Japan and Korea during the Korean War, working for the overseas department of the Army Library.

She was a member of the Wyandotte County Genealogy Society.

She was married for 25 years to Leroy Fox, who died earlier.

Survivors include two sons, John Fox, Monmouth Junction, N.J., and George Fox, San Francisco; two sisters, Patricia Timmons, Lawrence, and Nancy Zipp, Shawnee; and a brother, Neil Perkins, Southlake, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
