Driver goes wrong way on I-35, causes wreck
Motorists involved in a three-vehicle accident Saturday on Interstate 35 in Franklin County, including the driver who was going the wrong way on the highway, escaped major injuries, authorities said.
At 5:40 a.m., a 2003 Buick driven by John E. Pattison Jr., 48, Ballwin, Mo., was headed northbound in the southbound lane near the east Leloup exit of I-35, said a spokeswoman for the Kansas Highway Patrol. Pattison’s car struck a 1998 Ford car driven by Adan H. Cumplido, 34, Kansas City, Mo.
Pattison continued in the wrong direction, striking a 2002 International truck driven by George E. Wilson, 60, Hutchinson.
Pattison was treated and released at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, said a hospital spokeswoman.
According to the Highway Patrol, two of the five people in the second vehicle were treated at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. A Ransom spokesman said the hospital had no record of the patients.
Damage was estimated at more than $500 for Pattison’s car; damage for the other vehicles was unknown.
No other details were available Saturday.
