Veritas victorious, 42-34

Veritas Christian School held Flint Hills to 11 points in the second half en route to a 42-34 high school boys basketball victory Friday night at Haskell’s Tecumseh Gym.

Veritas (7-13) was led by Kirk Long with 16 points. Casey Woods added 11 and Mark Randtke eight.

“We really looked good on the defensive end,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We weren’t hitting on all four cylinders offensively, but by far this was our best defensive effort. I told the kids at halftime if we held them to 23 points in the second half, we’d win, and we held them to 11.”

Veritas will play in the KCAA state tournament at 9 p.m. Thursday in Newton against the winner of a game between Syracuse and Liberal Fellowship Bible.
