David Berkowitz, Pelathe District communications chairman, was given the Shofar Medal during Scout Sabbath ceremonies at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center on Feb. 13. The medal is given to adult leaders who have been active in helping Jewish youth in scouting. Norman Kahn, chairman of the Heart of America Council Committee on Jewish Scouting, made the presentation. Berkowitz is believed to be the first adult leader to receive this award for work done within Pelathe District.

  • Nine boys from Cub Scout Pack 3055, chartered to the Westside Presbyterian Church of Lawrence, will bridge into Boy Scout Troop 52 on Feb. 21. They completed all 20 requirements of the Webelos program and earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting. The cubs are: Nick Haley, Justin Robertson, Elliott Johnson, David Lawrence, Walker Lindsey, Cameron Howard, Steven Dalager, Ian Simmons and Tyler Hunsaker.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3057, chartered to the Lawrence Catholic Schools, had its annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Feb. 7 at St. John the Evangelist Church. Father Charles Polifka presented the religious awards. Simon Elwell, Luke Oberrieder, Clayton Pfeifer, Adam Wagner and Jakob Walter earned their Light of Christ Medal. Jonathan Fitzgerald, Jacob Pfeifer and Lucas Vogelsang earned their Parvuli Dei (Children of God) medal.

The Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting, was earned by Jonathan Clark, Patrick Fay, Robert Flaig, Zach Hill, Riley King, Eric Long, Ben Munson, Mack Pryor, Nick Pryor and James Windholz. Eric Long bridged into Boy Scout Troop 52. Patrick Fay, Robert Flaig, Zach Hill, Riley King, Ben Munson, Mack Pryor, Nick Pryor and James Windholz bridged into Troop 59. Recognition was given by the Pack to outgoing Webelos leaders Doug Fay and Greg Hill, as well as to outgoing Cubmaster Paul Clark.
