KU golf seventh in Orlando

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the 18-team 2004 UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla.

Kansas opened the two-day tournament with a first round total of 299, then followed with a second-round score of 300 for a total of 599 at the 6,978 yard, par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club.

KU junior Andrew Price, of Lake Forest, Ill., is tied for fourth after rounds of 71 and 72.

“With the exception of Andrew and Kevin (Ward), the rest of the team struggled today and missed a lot of putts,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We had to count some high scores, but you could tell it was because of a lack of practice time.”

Kansas trails first-place South Alabama, which carded a 577, by 22 strokes. Central Florida is in second after shooting a 578, while Coastal Carolina is in third after a two-round total of 588.

“We played like it was the first day of the first tournament of the spring,” Randall said. “We can only get better as things go along from here.”

The final round begins at 8 this morning.
