Utah tops Kansas in women’s tennis

Salt Lake City — Kansas University’s tennis team fell to Utah, 4-3, Saturday.

Kansas (0-3) won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Seniors Courtney and Kristen Steinbock picked up their first win of the season, 8-2 at the No. 1 spot.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Christine Skoda and freshman Brittany Brown earned an 8-5 victory.

In singles play, Skoda and Brown won at the No. 3 and 4 singles spots, but Utah took the other four singles matches and the overall victory.

Three Jayhawks post NCAA provisional marks

Ames, Iowa — Three Kansas University track and field athletes met NCAA provisional marks Saturday at the ISU Classic.

Benson Chesang finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:06.56), while Jeremy Mims was second in the 800 (1:49.15). On the women’s side, Laura Lavoie was fifth in the mile (4:47.24).

In another meet at Fayetteville, Ark., KU’s Leo Bookman was second in the 200 to Tyson Gary of Arkansas. Bookman’s 20.82 was his second-fastest time of the season.

Next up for the Jayhawks is the Sooner Invitational Saturday at Norman, Okla.
