The week: Legler came through at the Sunflower League swim meet last weekend, qualifying for state in two events in his last chance before the meet. Friday, he swam a 1:07.00 in the 100 breaststroke, just .6 seconds quicker than the standard qualification time. He placed 10th in the 200 individual medley with another state-qualifying time, finishing in 2:13.97. As a team, LHS placed eighth at the 12-team meet, which Shawnee Mission East won.

Sport: Basketball

The week: Petty shot lights out in two games this week, averaging 22 points in two Wildcat victories. Tuesday against Lansing, Petty nailed five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 27 points in a 66-62 De Soto win. Then Wednesday against Kansas City Piper, she added 17 more points in a 56-44 Wildcat victory. Behind Petty’s hot shooting, De Soto extended its winning streak to 12 straight games and is 14-1 on the season.
