Jack Collins

Mr. Collins died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Holiday Resort in Emporia.

He was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Lawrence, the son of William I. and Agnes M. (Shields) Collins. He grew up in the Lawrence area and graduated from high school in Lecompton. He attended Kansas University for a year. He had lived in Emporia since 1974.

Mr. Collins was in the U.S. Army from June 1, 1941, to Nov. 11, 1945, and served in Greenland. He was a former member of the American Legion and lifetime member of Emporia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7957. He was a supervisor for Fanestil and was later a meat inspector for the state of Kansas until he retired in 1990.

He married Helen Leslie on March 6, 1942, in Lecompton. She died Sept. 6, 1992. He married Gladys P. Craig on Jan. 20, 1993, in Cottonwood Falls. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Phillip, Emporia; a stepson, Kenneth Craig, Carbondale; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
