Alice M. Harris

? Private graveside services for Alice M. Harris, 86, Pittsburg, will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hiatville.

Mrs. Harris died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at her home.

She was born June 10, 1917, in Sedalia, Mo., the daughter of George and Ana Glorine Edwards. She was orphaned at an early age and raised by John P. and Effie B. Pasley Wyland. She attended schools in rural Cato. She moved to Pittsburg in 1999.

Mrs. Harris worked for Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 21 years as a licensed practical nurse in the nursery. She retired in 1983. She was a Baptist.

She married Johnny M. Sweet. They later divorced. She married John D. Harris in February 1946 in Pittsburg. He died earlier.

Two sons, Larry E. Harris and David T. Harris, and three grandchildren also died earlier.

Survivors include a son, James Sweet, Pittsburg; four daughters, Effie E. Toney, Pittsburg, Patey A. Stoddard, Topeka, Bess M. Strukel, Girard, and Charlotte E. Houseworth, Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Brenner Mortuary Chapel in Pittsburg.
