Eleanor Rose ‘Mimi’ Vance

? Services for Eleanor Rose “Mimi” Vance, 84, Atchison, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Atchison. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison.

Mrs. Vance died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born June 21, 1919, in Lancaster, the daughter of William and Katherine (Kammer) Matthias. She graduated from Atchison High School.

Mrs. Vance co-owned and operated with her husband several liquor and clothing stores in Kansas and Missouri, including a store in the Lawrence area. She was a charter member of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

She married William E. Vance on Oct. 7, 1939. He died earlier. An infant daughter, Kathy Jean Vance, also died earlier, and another daughter, Judy Halling, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Patton, Atchison; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, Benedictine Sisters or the church, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison 66002.
