Artist’s works to be displayed at gallery

“The breakdowns and breakthroughs I have experienced always lead me to a greater understanding of myself,” artist Paul Flinders says. An exhibition of his mixed media works on paper opens Saturday at Olive Gallery and Art Supply, 15 E. Eighth St.

Although at first glance his pieces seem to focus on themes of isolation and melancholy, he says he’s actually exploring the idea of greater possibilities and fulfilling potential.

The opening reception for “a bird, i wish i were,” which runs through Jan. 26, will be 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday. Work by Flinders’ brothers, Micheal and Thomas, will be featured in Kids’ Corner, and musical guests Zach Newton and Andrew Bullington will entertain.

Georgia Tech denied KU a third straight berth in the Final Four with a 79-71 overtime victory last March in St. Louis. Saturday’s tipoff will be at 1:30 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse.
