Police respond to unruly nightclub crowd

A crowd spilling out of Last Call, 729 N.H., was more unruly than usual early Sunday morning, according to Lawrence Police.

Several officers were kept busy monitoring the crowd after the popular nightspot closed at 2 a.m.

“There were more people, more congestion and more fighting among themselves than usual,” police spokeswoman Sgt. Susan Hadl said. “It was difficult to get them to move along.”

At one point officers were startled when they heard what sounded like a gunshot or a firecracker. No one was hurt and officers were unable to find any witnesses or shell casings, Hadl said. No arrests were made.
