Two preps from Texas pick KU for football

Kansas University’s football team received oral commitments from a pair of players from Texas over the weekend.

KU has landed Val Taylor, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound receiver from Dallas South Oak Cliff High, and Terrel Nemons, a 6-3, 315-pound defensive tackle from Cedar Hill High.

The Jayhawks also received a commitment Sunday from Dustin Forston, a 5-11, 208-pound linebacker from Miami, Fla.

Nemons is ranked as the No. 31 player in Texas by rivals.com and the No. 26 defensive tackle in the country. He chose KU over Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Tulsa, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

“I just felt like it was the right fit and the right place for me,” Nemons told Jon Kirby of rivals.com. “I’ve always been high on Kansas, since they have one of my former teammates there (Marcus Herford), but this weekend sealed the deal for me. I’m a Jayhawk.”

Taylor earlier had committed to UTEP after standing out at their summer football camp.

“A lot of schools never called because they thought I was committed,” he said. “But recently I had set visits up with Kansas, Kansas State and Louisiana Tech. But I’m not going to take the other visits because I loved Lawrence.”

Taylor has 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash. He also is a standout in track, where he runs the 400, the 1,600 relay and the 200. He received All-America mentions for his performances.

“I loved my visit,” he told rivals.com. “I was hosted by Dexton Fields, who was my teammate two years ago in high school. He told me how much he liked it at Kansas. The one thing that stood out to me was the team chemistry.”
