Sylvester Eugene Rothwell
Williamstown ? Graveside services with military honors for Sylvester “Syl” Eugene Rothwell, 84, Lecompton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Cemetery in Williamstown.
Mr. Rothwell died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 18, 1920, in Jefferson County, the son of Thurman and Mable Carr Rothwell. He was raised in Douglas County and attended No. 6 Grade School.
Mr. Rothwell was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 106th Infantry Division. He worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant for 34 years before retiring.
He married Lorene Elizabeth Hibner on Feb. 8, 1953, in Harrisonville, Mo. She died Dec. 11, 2003.
A stepdaughter, Doris Parker, also died earlier.
Survivors include a stepson, Carl Silvers, Lone Star; two sisters, Jane Childs, Nebraska, and Ruth Verynck, Lawrence; a brother, Wilbur, Lawrence; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
