Red Raiders stunned

? Carrie Mason scored Virginia Tech’s final four points in overtime to lead the Hokies to a 71-70 victory over No. 12 Texas Tech on Sunday.

Mason led the Hokies with 12 points, four assists and three blocked shots. Her basket and two free throws gave the Hokies a 71-68 lead with 29 seconds left.

Cisti Greenwalt’s basket pulled the Red Raiders within a point, and Mason missed two free throws with eight seconds left. That gave Texas Tech a final possession, but Chesley Dabbs’ shot from the top of the key fell short.

Mason’s consecutive three-pointers gave the Hokies their first lead at 54-51 with 4:03 left in regulation.

Virgina Tech’s Kirby Copeland made one of two free throws with 28 seconds to tie the game at 60 at the end of regulation.

Nare Diawara and Erin Gibson each scored 11 points for Virginia Tech. Dawn Chriss added eight points and eight rebounds.

LaToya Davis led the Red Raiders with 23 points off 9-of-13 shooting. Greenwalt had 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Dabbs had 14 points, and Alesha Robertson added 11.

Texas Tech led 27-19 at halftime and by as many as 13 in the second half. Virginia Tech had the rebounding edge, 55-44.

No. 6 Baylor 89, Florida 62

Waco, Texas — Baylor played its sloppiest game of the season. It hardly mattered.

The Bears blew out Florida despite committing a season-high 26 turnovers.

Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson couldn’t complain — not after the team came within two points of its season high.

“This team is playing good basketball,” Mulkey-Robertson said. “As ugly and as sloppy as we were, we won by 25, we played everybody on the bench, and it’s a win.”

Five players scored in double figures for Baylor (9-1), which shot 53.7 percent. Sophia Young led the scoring with 15 points, and Steffanie Blackmon added 14. Emily Niemann scored 13, Abiola Wabara 12 and Latoya Wyatt 11.

“It was good (getting the balanced scoring),” Blackmon said. “Going into conference play, it helps our team to get more production from the guards.”

Brittany Davis led Florida (6-3) with 16 points.
