Eagle Day set Jan. 23

Lawrence will be the site of a Kansas Eagle Day with several events scheduled Jan. 23 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

In addition to dozens of exhibitors’ booths featuring live animals and activities for children, there will be many programs throughout the day, including:

  • 11 a.m. — Thor Holmes, KU Natural History Museum, “Who’s at Home on the Prairie?”
  • Noon — Bunnie Watkins, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, “Lewis & Clark: Birds, Bears and Buffalo.”
  • 1 p.m. — Mike Watkins, wildlife biologist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, “Eagle Nesting in Kansas.”
  • 3 p.m. — Marty Birrell, director, Prairie Park Nature Center, “Birds of Prey: Design of a Predator.”

Weather permitting, there will be two ranger-led eagle-viewing excursions at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. starting at the Clinton Lake Corps headquarters.
