Gimzo’s late free throw lifts Perry-Lecompton
Perry ? With the game tied at 46 and .6 seconds left, Perry-Lecompton’s Tonya Gimzo stepped to the line for two free throws.
She only made one, but it was enough for the Kaws in a 47-46 basketball victory Friday over Pleasant Ridge — P-L’s first victory this season.
Gimzo had 13 points, and Casey Amerine added 10 for Perry-Lecompton, which saw a six-point halftime lead evaporate in the fourth quarter. The Kaws didn’t help themselves from the free-throw line, making just 15 of 36.
But Gimzo’s went in, and that was enough for Perry-Lecompton coach Mark Armstrong.
“It should not have been that close,” he said.
“(Pleasant Ridge) is a nice club. We just aren’t very good on the offensive end right now.”
Friday, though, the Kaws were good enough.
“It was a good home win,” Armstrong said.
Perry-Lecompton (1-2) will travel Tuesday to Silver Lake. Pleasant Ridge fell to 2-3.
