FCE and 4-H News
The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met Nov. 9 in Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Myrna Hartford, president, reported that “Character Counts” will take place again this year for fourth-grade students. This year’s theme is “respect.” Interested parties should contact Hartford at 841-0901.
Susan Krumm announced the “path” program will be from Feb. 15 through April 14.
Darlene Bright announced that the next Red Cross blood drive would be Feb. 24 at First Christian Church. Willmyra and Stull FCE units will each furnish five dozen cookies for the drive.
The programs for 2005 were announced as follows:
- Jan. 14 — “Basics of Stenciling” by Rebecca Seitter.
- Feb. 11 — “ACWW Paupa, New Guinea” by the Rev. Gary Teske.
- March 11 — “Forgetfulness or Alzheimer’s” by Dr. John Clark.
- April 1 — “Color Me Healthy” by Connie Detweiler.
- May 13 — “People TALK: Enhancing Your Relationships” by Rowena Pine.
- June 10 — “Old Tyme Games and Activities” by Kim Davis.
- Sept. 9 — “A-B-C- Fall Garden With Me” by Bruce Chladny.
- Oct. 13 — “Sauce It Up” by Lola Ford and Freida Martin.
- Nov. 11 — “Growing Stronger” by Susan Krumm.
- Dec. 9 — “Identity Theft” by Sarah Elsen.
The following check-out packets may be picked up and used for programming:

The next FCE council meeting will be Jan. 4.

The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club had Parents Night on Nov. 8.
The meeting was called to order by Chris Lesser. Members answered roll call by naming a new project they would like to try.
The club decided to have a food drive for the Lecompton United Methodist Church’s food pantry for a community service project. Members are asked to bring food items to the December meeting.
The program was provided by Debbie Johnson, Melody Barnes and Gina Schumann.

The Douglas County 4-H Horse Project met Nov. 16 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The club elected new officers. They are Paris Nottingham, president; Katelyn Reese, vice president; Wyatt Schumann, secretary; Kalen Wright, treasurer; Braxton Nottingham, parliamentarian; Mason Durkes, reporter.
The arena will be open at 5 p.m. Tuesday for any member interested in using it.
The next business meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 20. A pizza party and an awards ceremony will follow.
