Gary and Susan Bartlett, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter, Melanie Bartlett, Lawrence, to Jason Thomson, Ontario, Canada, son of Terry Thomson, Missagua, Ontario, and Paul and Valrena Bolus, Burlington, Ontario.

The bride-to-be is a 1998 graduate of Free State High School. She works in a bakery specializing in pastries and cake decorating.

The future groom is a 1990 graduate of Assumption Secondary School, Burlington, Ontario, and a 1994 graduate of Ryerson University, Toronto. He is the owner and creative director of a communications company in Canada.

The couple plan an April 30, 2005, wedding at Danforth Chapel in Lawrence.

Ketzner-Smith

Kevin Ketzner, Wichita, and Lionel and Julie Smith, McKinney, Texas, announce the engagement of their children, Melissa Dawn Ketzner and Gavin Christopher Smith, both of Lawrence.

The bride-to-be also is the daughter of the late Diana Copeland. She is a graduate of Wichita High School East. She is a Kansas University student and employed at Linquist & Craig Hotels and Resorts.

The future groom graduated from Papillion La-Vista High School. He attended KU. He plans to receive a degree from Kansas State University. He is the general manager of Fatso’s.

Dow-Ward

Patrick and Mirah Dow, Eureka, announce the engagement of their daughter, Hilary Robb Dow, to Geoffrey Harris Ward, son of Wilbert and Joyce Ward, Brampton, Ontario.

The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Emporia High School. She is a senior at Kansas University where she is studying voice performance, piano and music education. She is a chorale scholar at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka. She is an elementary music teacher at Raintree Montessori School in Lawrence and a private piano teacher.

The future groom has completed degrees in music, music performance and music education at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, and Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. He is pursuing a doctorate of musical arts in church music and organ performance at KU. He is the director of music at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.

Suzanne Myers and Matthew Oertel, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.

The future bride is the daughter of Gordon and Susan Meyers, Garnett, and Barbara Anderson, Burns, and the late Louis Anderson. She is a 1997 graduate of Topeka High School and a 2001 graduate of Kansas University’s School of Journalism. She will complete her teaching certification in secondary English education through Washburn University after student teaching this spring. She is employed with Douglas County Bank.

The future groom is the son of Tom and Linda Oertel, Leavenworth. He is a 1994 graduate of Pleasant Ridge High School. He received a certificate of completion in 1996 for HVAC from Northland Career Center in Platte City, Mo. In 2002, he finished the HVAC apprenticeship program through Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 763. He is employed with Chaney Inc. in Lawrence.

The couple plan a July 16, 2005, wedding in South Park in Lawrence.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of David and Cindy Young, Lawrence. She trains and shows horses.

The future groom is the son of Tony Romero and Linda Geyer, both of Lawrence. He works at Lawrence Paper Co.

Loretta Wyrick and Jeffrey Severin, both of Lawrence, announce their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Herb and Sarah Wyrick, Emporia. She is a 1997 Emporia High School graduate. She received a bachelor’s degree in English and women’s studies from Kansas University in 2001. She is the assistant coordinator of the Kansas Methamphetamine Prevention Project in Topeka.

The future groom is the son of John and Karen Severin, Robinson. He is a 1997 graduate of Hiawatha High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from KU in 2001. He is employed as the environmental services manager at KU.

The couple plan a May 14, 2005, wedding on KU’s campus.
