Ottawa — Services for Miguel Baeza "Mike" Garcia, 99, Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
Mr. Garcia died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born March 26, 1905, in Uriangato, Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Merejildo Baeza and Josefa Garcia. He lived in Topeka for a short time before moving to Ottawa in the early 1930s.
Mr. Garcia worked as a laborer for the Santa Fe Railroad for 46 years starting in 1924. He retired in 1970. He attended church at the Old Mexican Mission in his early years and then Jehovah's Witnesses, both in Ottawa.
He married Senaida Garcia in 1938, in Ottawa. She died in 1985.
Two infant sons also died earlier.
Survivors include seven sons, Miguel Jr., Lawrence, Jose, Chanute, Frank, Baldwin, and Jesse, Merejildo B., Jimmy, and Daniel, all of Ottawa; two daughters, Senaida Larios and Avalina "Billie" DeLaTorre, both of Ottawa; 31 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and until the service hour Monday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
