Robert David Smith

Mr. Smith died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Atchison Senior Village Nursing Home. He was cremated.

He was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Horton, the son of Sanford and May V. Wheeler Smith. He graduated from high school in Willis. He lived in the Horton, Huron, Lancaster and Atchison areas all of his life.

Mr. Smith worked for Criss Oil Co. in East Atchison and former LFM steel foundry in Atchison. He also worked for Kenworth-Dart in Kansas City, Mo., for 26 years until it closed in 1985. He retired in 1996 after working for 11 years with E & E Specialties in Lawrence as a plastics extruder operator.

He married Eleanor J. Steuart on Jan. 9, 1953, in Savannah, Mo. She died March 27, 1997.

Survivors include his mother, Horton; a son, Roger D., Atchison; three daughters, Gay Brooke, Atchison, Pamela S. Brown, Lawrence, and Debra K. Kuhnert, Keithville, La.; a brother, Carl, Perry; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison.

The family suggests memorials to the Dream Factory, Ronald McDonald House or American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison 66002.
