Oskie athlete to row at KSU
Oskaloosa ? Jessica Layden has played three sports for Oskaloosa High. She’ll take up a fourth in college.
Layden, who plays volleyball, basketball and softball for the Bears, signed a letter of intent with Kansas State’s rowing team Tuesday. She also accepted a partial scholarship, though she has no rowing experience.
“They told me they were looking for all-around athletes,” she said, “and I’ve played three sports since middle school.”
The 5-foot-10 Layden played those sports well enough to earn scholarship offers from smaller colleges, but the senior couldn’t say no to the Wildcats.
“I really wanted to go to K-State,” Layden said. “I’ve visited the campus several times, and I really like it there.”
Layden was an honorable mention All-Delaware Valley League volleyball player this fall. She averaged eight points and nine rebounds for the Bears basketball team last year.
