George Clarence Steed

? Services for George Clarence Steed, 85, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Burial will follow in McLouth Cemetery.

Mr. Steed died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Hickory Pointe Care Center in Oskaloosa.

He was born June 11, 1919, in rural McLouth, the son of Clarence Earl and Mini Maud Larison Steed. He graduated from McLouth High School in 1937. He was a lifelong resident of McLouth until he moved to Topeka in 1998.

Mr. Steed served in the Army National Guard during World War II from 1940 to 1945. He worked as a mechanical maintenance foreman for Kansas Power and Light at the Lawrence Energy Center for 21 years. He also farmed south of McLouth for many years.

He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 393 of McLouth and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1650 of Topeka. He also belonged to McLouth Senior Citizens.

He married Elaine Quisenberry in 1946. She died in 1963. He married Beatrice Eggleston in 1965. She died in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Lynn Florence, Evans, Ga.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
