Immediate volunteer needs

  • The Roger Hill Volunteer Center has published its annual “How to Help at the Holidays” brochure, which provides information on volunteer and donation opportunities. The brochure explains how volunteers may assist charitable organizations, participate in adopt-a-family and adopt-a-child programs, and when volunteers are needed to assist with free community meals. The brochure is available by calling the center, 865-5030, or by visiting any Lawrence-area Capitol Federal Savings branch or the United Way Center, 2518 Ridge Court.
  • The Holiday Bureau needs donations for its Adopt-a-Family program. Each family fills out a wish list of clothing, toys and other items. Families can be adopted through the Salvation Army, 843-4188; Ballard Community Center, 842-0729; Penn House, 842-0400; Pelathe Community Resource Center, 841-7202; or at ECKAN, 841-3357.
  • Also coordinated by the Holiday Bureau is Douglas County Senior Services’ Adopt-a-Grandparent program. Volunteers are paired with a senior and provide at least one item from his or her wish list and a grocery certificate. To adopt a grandparent for the holidays, call 842-0543.
