Larry Dean Thompson

? Services for Larry Dean Thompson, 49, Independence, Mo., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sheil Colonial Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 10, 1955, in Oklahoma City, the son of Henry Sr. and Dorothy Thompson. He lived at Edwards Air Force Base and in Rosamond, Calif. He later moved to Lawrence, Kan. He graduated from Rosamond High School in 1974 and studied business education at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence.

Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He worked for the Department of Agriculture since 1986. He coached Little League baseball and football. He served as a member of Heart of America Indian Center from 1996 to 2004, where he was chairman of the board. He also was a member of the Federal Executive Board, representing American Indian executives.

He married Danielle Thompson in 1987. She died earlier.

Survivors include three sons, Nathan, of the home, Larry Jr., Texas, and Nokoma Thompson, Ohio; two daughters, Amy Thompson, Independence, Mo., and Nina Begay, Crown Point, N.M.; three brothers, Henry Jr., Rosamond, Calif., Eugene, Rosamond, and Robert, Lawrence; two sisters, Deborah Thompson, Rosamond, and Donna Jones, Perris, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund in his name at the Heart of American Indian Center, 600 W. 39th St., Kansas City, MO 64111.
