James Berry Carl Alder
ELLINWOOD ? Services for James Berry Carl Alder, 86, Ellinwood, were Monday at United Methodist Church in Ellinwood. Burial is in Plains Cemetery.
Mr. Alder died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1918, in Sneedville, Tenn., the son of Lloyd L. Alder and Margaret Baldwin. He lived in Ellinwood since 1980 and formerly lived in Dodge City, Ellsworth and Coldwater.
Mr. Alder was a life insurance agent and owner and operator of Alder Trucking in Dodge City. He was a truck driver for Feaster Trucking in Great Bend. He was also a farm and ranch hand and auto mechanic in Wilmore. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Isis Shrine.
He also was a member of Lions Club and district governor from 1996 to 1997, and he served on the Ellinwood City Council from 1990 to 2003. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and coordinator of the Leader Dog Project. He was Ellinwood’s distinguished citizen in 1991 and won the Ellinwood Schools Athletic Award in 2003. He also was a Meals on Wheels and Commodities Distribution volunteer.
Mr. Alder married Olive Myers on May 26, 1939, in Coldwater. She died Feb. 23, 1970. He married Leona Florene Wright on April 22, 1976, in Dodge City. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Donald D., Coaldale, Colo., and James Jr., Eudora; four daughters, Heather Barta, Ellsworth, Carlyne Holt, Yuma, Ariz., and Mary Ann Watts and Judith Regnier, both of Eudora; a stepson, Lance Wright, Newton; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A son, Ronald L., died earlier.
