KSU loses to Liberty in title game, 77-56

? Kristal Tharp had 26 points, and Liberty took advantage of No. 19 Kansas State being without Kendra Wecker on Saturday in the championship game of the Wildcat Classic.

The 77-56 loss marked Kansas State’s worst home loss since Feb. 18, 1998, snapping the Wildcats’ 35-game regular-season home winning streak.

Wecker, a preseason All-American and the Wildcats leading scorer, injured her left ankle against New Hampshire on Friday night. She had averaged a team-high 20.6 points and 7.6 rebounds.

Katie Feenstra, the tournament MVP, had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Flames (3-2). Rima Margeviciute added 16 points.

Leading 36-35 with 18:04 left, Liberty used a 21-2 run for a 57-37 lead.

Megan Mahoney lead Kansas State (4-2) with 18 points. Laurie Koehn added 17 for the Wildcats, who were 5-of-24 on three-pointers and 3-of-10 from the free-throw line.

No. 7 Texas 73,

New Mexico 56

Albuquerque — Senior guard Jamie Carey scored a career-high 28 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Texas past New Mexico. Kala Bowers was the only other Longhorn in double figures with 12 points. Lindsey Arndt had 15 points, and Fatima Maddox added 12 for the Lobos (4-1). Texas (4-2) led 34-26 at halftime, and New Mexico came within seven with 13:23 left. But the Longhorns blocked shots and forced turnovers, pulling ahead 61-43 behind Heather Schreiber’s seven straight points. In the first half, the Lobos went nearly five minutes before Maddox’s jumper.

No. 9 Baylor 73, Jackson State 56

Greenville, N.C. — Steffanie Blackmon scored 17 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Baylor in the opener of the Lady Pirate Invitational. Baylor, which led 31-19 at the half, shot a season-best 49 percent despite going 4-of-15 from three-point range. Emily Niemann had 14 points, and Sophia Young added 10 for the Bears (5-1). Angela Tisdale led the Baylor offense with eight assists. Shante Stanford led Jackson State (1-2) with 21 points.

Texas A&M 73,

College Station, Texas — Charlette Castile scored 19 points, and Texas A&M won its fifth straight. The Aggies (5-1) never trailed and jumped to a 19-3 lead midway through the first half. Tori Talbert had 17 points and eight rebounds for Texas State (2-4). Texas State came within 32-27 at halftime and trailed 54-49 with six minutes left. But the Aggies outscored TSU 19-6 the rest of the way. Texas A&M’s Tamea Scales and Patrice Reado each had 13 points, and Morenike Atunrase added 10. Texas State’s Tamara Thompson scored 10 points.

Oral Roberts 65, Oklahoma State 61, OT

Tulsa, Okla. — Elisha Turek scored 27 points in Oral Roberts’ overtime victory over Oklahoma State. Turek, a preseason all-conference pick, also had 13 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (4-1). Alycia Seay added another 12 points and four rebounds. Nina Stone had 21 points for the Cowgirls (2-3), including four three-point shots. Taleesha Conder added ten points and seven rebounds.
