Parade preserved
Lawrence has once again risen to the challenge to preserve a holiday tradition
Thanks to the coalition of businesses and individuals who rose to the occasion to preserve the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade in downtown Lawrence.
Funding for the event was in danger this year after the Eldridge Hotel, its major sponsor, went into bankruptcy and was sold. But thanks to the generosity of many residents, the parade tradition will continue beginning at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
The parade of horse-drawn, vintage wagons and carriages has become a popular feature of the holiday season in Lawrence, drawing spectators from Lawrence and other cities. It is a boon for downtown businesses, many of which contributed to preserving the parade, and a wonderful family event.
A list of contributors to the event, whose major sponsor now is CornerBank, was published on page 4B of Wednesday’s Journal-World. If you appreciate this event, make it a point to thank those who continue to make it possible.
