Lena M. Newell

Valley Falls ? Services for Lena M. Newell, 80, Valley Falls, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery northeast of Oskaloosa.

Mrs. Newell died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

She was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Lorenzo “Guy” and Lena Miller Clanin. She had lived in Oskaloosa and Lawrence.

Mrs. Newell was a data entry clerk for the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles in Topeka. She was a member of Lakeview Faith Chapel in Holton and Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 in Valley Falls.

She married Vernon H. Newell on Jan. 30, 1950, in Oskaloosa. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, John Newell, Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Engel, Lawrence, and Joanne Graves, Holton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
