Kansas Speedway adds 1,500 seats for 2005

? Construction began at Kansas Speedway this week to add 1,500 seats, and the track’s president said he would keep adding on if demand for tickets remained strong.

The new seats will boost the grandstand’s capacity to nearly 82,000, good news for race fans on a waiting list for season tickets.

Kansas Speedway president Jeff Boerger expects even more seats to be built if the waiting list grows.

“It’s the law of supply and demand,” Boerger said. “We have a low supply of race tracks here and a high demand by folks who want to see it.”

The new seats are above the entry to turn one and make up three new sections.

The expansion is the second since the speedway opened in 2001. A 1,500-seat expansion in 2003 brought the capacity to 80,187.
